One Concept: Make Yor Speech Topic Come Alive

The topic of making your speech topic come alive really stood out to me in this week’s reading. If you don’t do this your speech may be very boring and your audience won’t be very engaged in your speech. The book says a speaker can make their speech topic come alive by demonstrating a positive attitude and connecting to the audience in meaningful ways. This can be accomplished by establishing a context for your topic that excites your audience's imagination and also by using vivid language to describe your main points. Having an awesome topic can mean nothing if you don’t speak about it in a positive and exciting manner. You can also make a not so great topic come alive by using vivid language and connecting it to your audience. Making your topic come alive will help you to keep your audience interested in your speech, in turn helping you to be more confident while giving your speech helping you portray a positive attitude about your topic.

  1. What an interesting read! It is true though, why would anyone want to listen to a speech if the speaker itself is not excited about their topic. I believe a positive attitude is a must, even if a speaker is not going to enjoy speaking on a certain topic a change in attitude makes the delivery of the speech better for the speaker and more enjoyable for the audience. Language is a great way to add some flair to your speech by choosing words wisely, you can paint a picture in the audience's mind to go along with your speech, and help peak the creativity. Good luck!

  2. Those are some great ideas, Taylor! I completely agree with you that speakers need to make their topics come alive. Not most people like dry, dull speeches. In addition to your list, another method to make the speech come alive is one's own personal passion for what they are presenting. If a speaker really cares for what he or she is presenting, there will be sparks. This is why choosing topics should be done with care. Of course though, some people may really love and promote what they present and share, but may lack it in their appearance. I too think that the language used in the speech can make it more dynamic and give it gusto. Anyway, good luck to you and once again, great post.
